You Tube Saves the Day

Thanks to You Tube Harrison and I both know how to tie a tie now.   He had his spring concert at school the other night and dad was working late and neither one of us could figure it out.  Harrison went to the computer and looked it up on You Tube.  Sure enough, there was an easy to follow video on how to tie a tie.  Who knew?

Isn't he the most handsome 14 year old boy in his perfectly tied tie??!!

Flea Market Loot

Since no one in this house appreciates my good taste in flea market treasure hunting, I was hoping you wouldn't mind if I shared with you a few of my lucky finds from my recent antiquing weekend.  As some of you may know, every year at this time I go on a little treasure hunting adventure to Pennsylvania with my parents.  Having this weekend to "junk" (as my Sweetie refers to it) with my parents is something I look so forward to each year.  We always have such a memorable time together, not to mention we come home with a trunk filled with goodies.

Mabel is now donning a "new" vintage millinery hat that I picked up for $5.

Love these old spools of thread and at only $.10 each, quite a bargain.

Some yummy seam binding and other goodies.

A plastic bin filled with vintage millinery flowers for $20!  JACKPOT!!

Some lovely vintage trims and pretty sparkling baubles.

And finally, the true Jackpot for me.  A leather bound accounting journal from the 1920s and a whole box of vintage wallpaper.  A total of about 20 rolls.....several different patterns.  I have my father to thank for the wallpaper.  I passed right by this vendor's booth.  Lucky for me my dad saw the box and came looking for me to see if I might want it......um, YEA!!

I have more but will save the rest for another time.  Now I just need to find some free time to put these goodies to use in my craft projects.

Wishing you all a terrific weekend.

A Walk in the Woods

Growing up our family spent many Sunday afternoons hiking the Appalachian Trail.  It was during these hikes that I learned the names of the different types of trees and plants growing in the woods.  This past Sunday Gracie and her friend spent most of the afternoon playing in the creek at the edge of our property.  After her friend went home she asked me to go for a walk in the woods with her.  I grabbed my camera and off we went.

Gracie's favorite plant we found was this beauty above, Jack in the Pulpit.  I remember as a kid thinking that was such a silly name for such a pretty plant....I still do.

A walk in the woods with my girl.  The perfect way to end the weekend.

Volunteerism

It happens every year at this time.  I seem to over extend myself with volunteering.  May is always such a busy month and then I go and offer to organize a LAX tailgate party, a concession stand for Gracie's school's outdoor movie night, collect funds and purchase the 5th grade legacy gift and the list goes on.  When will I learn?

On the bright side, the weather is just gorgeous today and I just finished my last batch of Rice Krispee treats for the bake sale this evening.  I think I will take Miss Alice for a quick walk before running out the door to pick up the kiddos and start our evening activities.

Have a lovely weekend friends.

Sweet Bouquet

I can't believe it is Tuesday already.  Yesterday I met a friend for a quick cup of coffee and she gave me this sweet bouquet of Lily of the Valley.   She went out in the morning in the pouring down rain and cut them just for me.....I was so touched.

I had my annual antiquing weekend with my parents.  We had such a great time. I found lots of goodies and will have to share them with you later in the week when I have a bit more time.  One of my lucky finds was the ironstone platter above.  I love it and only paid $11.  I am on the hunt for a few more ironstone platters/plates to hang on the wall above my bed.

Hope you are having a happy Tuesday!

It's a Doggie Day

This morning the weatherman was calling for a damp and cloudy day today, but to my surprise, after coming out of the gym, the sun was shining and it was almost 70 degrees (how can they be so wrong?).  Whenever it is a nice day outside we tell Miss Alice that it is going to be a doggie day.  This means it's the perfect day for her to spend it outdoors.  Today certainly has turned out to be a doggie day.  Can't you just see the sparkle in her eyes?

So Miss Alice and I took a walk this afternoon and I cut some dogwood branches to bring inside.  I decided to put them in a pair of little Wellies that were Gracie's from when she was about three years old.  These darling little rubber boots bring back such good memories.  I remember one day in particular where I actually let her play in muddy rain puddles (gasp)!  She was covered from head to toe....mud splashes all over her face and in her hair.  She couldn't have been happier.

I used to get so frustrated that she was always getting dirty when she was little.  Today I would do just about anything to have that time back.  I wouldn't be so uptight about her getting her shoes muddy in the creek or that she had dirt under her fingernails or mud on her cute little smocked dress.

The next time it rains, I am going to insist that she run outside and play in the mud puddles, and you know what, I just might join her!

Spring Cleaning

I wanted to stop in and say hi.  The weather has been so gorgeous here ~ the perfect time to throw open the windows and get busy doing some much needed spring cleaning.  I don't so much like the task of scrubbing and cleaning, but I do love the whole idea of renewal....out with the grey, wintry doldrums and in with fresh, pretty, clean-smelling spring!  I also love reading books on cleaning.  My newest favorite is Real Simple Cleaning. I can't believe I actually admitted to that.  Please tell me I'm not alone!

I hope you are enjoying some pretty weather as well, and I wish you the loveliest of lovely weekends.
